YLMP Youth Team

We know access to inspirational live music experiences is key to learning for student musicians. We know performance opportunities are vital for young professionals. We marry these needs and bring brilliant live music closer to home with the help of our voluntary Youth Team.

Our Youth Team, aged 16 - 24, organises Front of House at events, helps with marketing, box office management and has input with major decision making for strategy and programming. Members write feature articles for the YLMP Livenotes Magazine and contribute to our web presence .

All this means brilliant CV experience and fun!

About the YLMP Youth Team:

Amy Reeves is the YLMP Youth Team representative for the YLMP Consultative Board

"At the moment, I am studying for my A Levels in English Literature, English Language and History at Pontefract New College. As well as YLMP, I volunteer for the Hepworth Gallery Youth Board. In September I hope to attend University to study English Literature.

"In the future, I would love to be involved in a type of production media, preferably films or literature. After University, I am planning to go traveling around Europe, the Americas and Australia with family and friends.

"YLMP is very important to me as there is no other organisation based in Wakefield where there is such a diverse team working towards the same goal. The special aspect of YLMP, for me, is that it caters for all ages and tastes of music and encourages the public to explore new and different experiences.

"The performances are always fun and interesting to watch and I love the variety of professional musicians presented by the organisation."

Lauren Fox is part-time Marketing Assistant for YLMP

"I am currently studying English Language and Literature at the University of Nottingham - I am in the second year of my degree, and I love it. In the future I would like to get involved in events and marketing within the arts, and being involved with the YLMP has really helped me realise this.

"My involvement with the YLMP has been a brilliant experience; I have enjoyed everything from selling tickets, serving interval refreshments and helping with some aspects of organising the events.

"However, listening to some of the amazing artists which the YLMP works with has been the major highlight for me. There is nothing quite like listening to classical music live and the YLMP provides this and so much more.

"The live events could not be further from the stuffy evenings that are associated with classical music: they are relaxed, sociable and a lot of fun for people of all ages."

YLMP Youth Team member John Carlon writes feature articles for the YLMP magazine Livenotes.

Hello there! I study journalism in Sheffield and I am having a great time doing it. I also write for some newspapers and websites. When I'm not doing that I play alto saxophone in a jazz-rock ambient pop gypsy fusion band.

YLMP is a great initiative as it allows the people of the world's best county (Yorkshire) to listen to the world's best music (jazz and classical). Hope to see you at one of our exciting events soon!

Erinn Moore

"I'm currently studying for my A-Levels at Pontefract New College. I'm studying Music, Drama and Photography. In the future, I hope to go to university to study Photography and hopefully become a Live Music or Portrait photographer.

"The reason I am involved with YLMP, is because it gives me the opportunity to go and see a variety of live music at different venues around Yorkshire and also because I get to meet lots of new people.
"The music that YLMP provides is excellent and that makes me want to keep supporting their events whether helping out on the front of house team or just simply watching and listening to the music.

"Helping out at YLMP events has helped me improve my people skills and has made me more confident! I love YLMP! :)"

Zoe Carlon

"Hello I'm Zoe and I'm a student at Bootham School in York. I am currently working at my A levels in Art, English, Music and History plus, in my spare time, checking out alota live music, playing my cello and loving life!

"I'm involved in the Yorkshire Live Music Project because I really care about getting the best, most exciting live classical and jazz music to the most people, people who otherwise might not have had the chance to experience it. And that's what the project is about. It's also a fantastic way to meet loads of other like-minded live music enthusiasts, and obviously, contribute and be there for some of the best live music gigs I've ever had the pleasure of listening to.

"At a point in the future I would want to be contributing to our brilliant British culture in some way. Hoping to have been given the opportunity to merge together into a career my love for art, music and books! Hope I have made some satisfying paintings, and hope I have a pug for a pet dog!"

YLMP engages some of the UK's top professional musicians to inspire young people.

We believe access to quality live listening experiences is critical to progress for young people studying a musical instrument and to enable life-long learning and love for these genres.

We work with Wakefield Music Services and all educational agencies in a bid to promote the huge benefits of listening to amazing musicians.

We know this makes music education more effective and boosts its many secondary benefits - improved discipline, social awareness, team effort, personal fulfilment, self-esteem and confidence.
